These depictions of chairs in the studio offered some particularly interesting challenges both in oil paint and charcoal. Amongst these was the process of differentiating the multiplicity of nuanced blacks needed to achieve a sense of the volume and texture of the black blanket. I also enjoyed discovering how the two white chairs in charcoal can be depicted in quite a similar manner and yet reveal remarkably different feelings.

The few additional still lives and portrait reveal the beginnings of movements towards abstraction. All of which happened in the studio.
